AIMS OF THE PROJECT
1. Make a contribution to the process of translating the demands of indigenous peoples in Chiapas and southern Mexico into audiovisual media and assist them in realising their own goals through such media.2. Foment the creation of novel spaces in order to strengthen the educational, productive and commercial projects of indigenous organisations and communities involved in the project.
3. Offer marginalised communities and those suffering from high degrees of illiteracy new forms of audiovisual training and the distribution of information.
4. Provide video-training to indigenous members of organisations, communities, NGOs and First Nations generally in order to encourage the development of “multipliers” or “popular video-makers” able to promote new cultural politics in the state.
5. Open up new horizons and perspectives on life among indigenous peoples through video training and better access to technical and human resources, as well as widen the professional perspectives among the academics involved in the project.
6. Allow academics to discuss their work agendas with the indigenous people involved in the project and vice-versa, in order to reach a common agenda based on shared responsibilities and mutual respect.
7. Put down the foundations and continue to promote an “indigenous video culture” based in the cultural and political history of the First Nations living in the Southern Border region of Mexico.
8. Work towards integrating such “indigenous video culture” into contemporary indigenous and mestizo identities and promote intercultural, multiethnic and democratic forms of communication.
